Do not pay Fedex clearance administration charge

Tell Fedex (and others) to stick their unlawful invoices and stop trying to pass on their business costs (described as clearance administration charges) to bystanders.

Fedex try to hold me responsible for a 10 gbp charge for processing a VAT payment for much less than 10 gbp on a shipment from the US.

Quite apart from the fact that i'm not even a customer of Fedex itself (any contract was between fedex and the company that hired them to ship the parcel),
Imagine the profit they must make from unwary "bystanders" for processing fees for what must be a mostly automated system happening tens of thousands of times a day.

I'd have rather not paid the VAT either but given that the government are even bigger crooks than Fedex they would happily come after someone
for such a small amount and can't often be reasoned with (like pretty much all bullies ).
Fedex try and foist unlawful contracts on you, imagine what you can get away with if you make the "law" !

It might have been a bigger gesture of goodwill if they hadn't tried to con people into paying their business expenses (and increasing their profits) in the first place. Even if I was liable for their charges, there is no way on earth that 10gbp is commensurate with their losses for processing these payments.

Subject: RE: your invoice ref

Dear Fedex,

You recently delivered some goods to me via a relatives address and have now sent me an invoice ([my invoice ref]) for VAT and "charges/services"

Having now taken legal advice, I am prepared to pay the VAT claimed as this parcel came from the U.S. however I refuse to
pay your admin charges as it is now my understanding that under UK contract law, i'm not legally required to pay them since I am not a
customer of yours, never agreed to them, nor was made aware of them in advance nor entered into any form of contract or agreement with you.

I was not a party to any contract made between you and the supplier and suggest that if you wish to pursue this matter further you take it up
with the organisation that hired you rather than taking the current potentially illegal course of trying to hold me liable.

Therefore I will pay the sum of [vat on goods] you claim for VAT expenditure (via internet banking) given that the goods came from outside the EU and
hereby ask that you cancel the remaining sum of 10.00 on the invoice for the clearance
administration charge.

Please let me know when this has been done.

Regards,

[me]

Dear [me]

Re Invoice number [my inv no]

Thank you for your email with regards to the above invoice number.

Please be advised as a gesture of goodwill I have credited the admin fee of £10 for you.

Also we have received your payment thank you for £[vat amount], and I have passed the payment to be applied to the Invoice.

I can confirm this Invoice is now clear.

Kind Regards

"Gesture of goodwill" - my ars^.

Remember, I wasn't even a customer of theirs.
How about I do a rain dance in my living room in your honour (without asking if you wanted me to) and then I invoice you for 10,000 GBP for my services. The fact that I'm asking 10,000 doesn't make my invoice any less reasonable or legitimate than theirs.
